Return of Bikeshare

Wheels logo

East Carolina University is bringing Wheels, a bikeshare program to campus starting this fall! This will allow students, faculty and staff to rent electric bikes to travel more efficiently on and around campus. The bikes have features such as dual disc brakes, padded seats, integrated smart helmets, automatic lights, a sound system and can reach a top speed of up to 18mph.

To get started, you will need to download the Wheels app on your mobile device. Then you’ll either scan the QR code on the bike or input the numerical code into the app to unlock access. The cost of unlocking the bike is $1.00 with an additional $0.29 per minute.

Having this program at ECU encourages an alternative way to commute, which in turn will help drastically reduce carbon emissions and traffic congestion around the East Carolina University campus.

However, this program will not last long and the bikes will be removed if they are not parked in designated hubs on and around campus.  To be very clear, if the bikes become cluttered, abused, or are found in areas they should not be the University Administration will terminate this program so please be safe and properly park these bikes Pirates!

For any additional questions regarding the wheels rideshare program please contact East Carolina University Parking & Transportation Office or visit the take wheels website. Happy riding!
