Sustainable Content Creators
One easy thing you can do in your life to be more sustainable is to examine what you consume on a daily basis, whether this is in a literal sense of food, what you purchase, or what you’re watching and listening to. It stands to reason that if we surround ourselves with wasteful content, we will be inclined to be more wasteful. If that’s the case, the alternative must be true as well. Here is a list of some of our favorite content creators at ECU Sustainability.
Shelby Orme (@Shelbizleee)
Shelby Orme is a creator/influencer on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. She posts lifestyle content centered around low-waste and sustainable living. Not only are her videos easy and enjoyable to watch, but they are also educational in a way that inspires sustainable living. Shelby’s down-to-earth approach to living sustainably is classic yet entertaining as she mixes her zero-waste lifestyle into a normal lifestyle, showing how it can be attainable for many people. She also puts an emphasis on community-building and being active in local governments to help achieve environmental goals.
Aditi Mayer (@aditimayer)
Aditi Mayer describes herself as “… a visual storyteller weaving climate, craft, and culture.” She is an artistic creator focusing on social justice and sustainability in the fashion industry. Her Instagram and TikTok are filled with cinematic shots of nature, fashion, or foreign culture-related images and content. She has been featured in Vogue and National Geographic, as well as many other panels and magazines. Her intelligent but accessible approach to spreading awareness about her cause is both engaging and relaxing, and she refrains from overly sponsored or advice-related content. Anyone interested in fashion and/or the artistic expression of the climate issue will enjoy watching and reading her content.
Alexis Nikole (@alexisnikole)
Alexis Nikole is a forager dedicated to the education of the regular person concerning urban foraging and how to safely consume wild plants. Her fun and upbeat personality, extensive knowledge, and unique perspective as one of the first black foragers on social media never fails to make me smile while also learning about how to make maple syrup, pinecone jam, or cook flower petals into a curry-style dish. Through these videos, she is also documenting modern ways to apply multicultural and generational wisdom concerning edible, native flora. She is also featured on the Crash Course YouTube channel as the lead instructor for their botany courses.
Franziska (@ecofran)
Franziska, a young entrepreneur from Louisiana, is documenting the growth of her glass recycling business, Glass Half Full, (@glasshalffull.co on Instagram) in New Orleans and the surrounding areas. Franziska takes the discarded glass from her community and turns it into sand used in coastal restoration projects. These fun, informative videos shine a little light on the upside of sustainability, reminding us that there is hope, and if people are willing to do their part, we may have a chance. Watching someone so positive and happy about this heavy topic is refreshing.
Immy Lucas (@sustainably_vegan)
Immy Lucas uses her platform to advocate for a low impact lifestyle: sustainability, plant-based, and ethical. She uploads videos on her YouTube channel and reels on Instagram and covers subjects from zero waste swaps to ethical fashion and minimalism to climate change and plant-based recipes. Her tone and approach is quiet and calm, emphasizing a slow lifestyle and embracing the little joys in life.
Emma Dendler (@simpleenvironmentalist)
Emma Dendler focuses on making sustainability free, easy, and fun for everyone. She puts an emphasis on how all of us can all do our part to live more sustainably and have less of an impact on the earth. She makes content broadly on environmentalism but also sustainability, veganism, zero waste, and minimalism, often with the slant of making it easy and affordable.

Dr. Adam Levy is a climate scientist with a PhD from Oxford who gives informative updates on climate science, combats misinformation about climate change, and makes in-depth videos that answer people’s questions about the climate to make science more accessible to the public. He often emphasizes offering solutions and provides a balanced view between addressing the seriousness of climate change and the progress we’ve made so far.
