Green Halloween Costumes

Costume Brainstorming – For those who want to do so without adding to the landfill.  Costumes are so much fun to wear, but are often expensive and are usually only worn once. Here are some things to consider while shopping this year.

  1. Plan a costume swap.

Do you have a friend group who you often share clothes with? Maybe they have a costume from last year that they don’t want to wear again this year. Consider grabbing a group of your friends and seeing if they are interested in holding a costume swap. This way, you can all have fun trying on each others costumes, while repurposing what is likely sitting in the back of your closet (this also means you’ll save some extra cash)! You can also reach out to people through groups like pirate gals to see what people in the area might have.

  2. Use what’s in your closet

If you’re crafty you might excel at this! However, there are a ton of simple costume ideas you can create with clothing items you might already have. For example, this popular Mean Girls scene or a classic rock outfit:

  3. Shop your local thrift stores

If after this you are still struggling to find a costume idea, find some inspiration at your local thrift stores! In fact, ECU Pirate Swap is a student led organization that hosts pop up thrift shops on campus and will be holding one on October 19th (check out @pirate.swap on Instagram for more information). Other community thrift stores you can check out are Hope of Glory Ministry, Salvation Army stores, Plato’s Closet, Goodwill and more.
